Depending on the modes you play, you’ll be hearing a variety of peppy tunes. Unfortunately, the Adventure mode suffers a bit here, as one particular track plays through a large portion of battles. It’s nothing that ruins the experience, but a little more variety would have been appreciated. Combining two different but similar puzzle games was risky but Sega managed to pull it off to create a fantastic puzzle package. Puyo Puyo Tetris has something for you whether you are a fan of just Tetris, Puyo Puyo or looking for a twist like the Fusion Mode.

You can do similar sort of damage with Puyo Puyo by creating huge chains – the bigger the chains, the bigger the points. Adventure mode story builds on lore from games only released in Japan. All told there is an embarrassment of riches to be found in Puyo Puyo Tetris.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2’s core gameplay has two components as the name suggests. The Tetris component has you playing Tetris where Tetriminos fall from the top as you try and fill up lines to clear the board. Puyo Puyo on the other hand, involves slime-like blobs called Puyo that fall from the top of the screen. I think those who loved Puyo Puyo Tetrisand want more will find that this sequel scratches any itch for these competitive puzzle games. However, it’s not as drastic a difference as I could have hoped for. Many of the improvements may have been behind the scenes with balances and improved quality, but both titles could be seen as almost identical to the casual player.

Tetris Unblocked Game

It can be unforgiving, and you definitely need to learn how to gain points fast and damage your opponent at the same time in both Tetris and Puyo Puyo. Opponents can feel frustratingly unfair if you are not competent enough. If you only just want to experience the story, once you fail a stage three times or so, the game gives you the option to skip that stage and progress. Although since all you’re playing are variations of the same games, it can start to get repetitive by the halfway point. As with the first game, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 features a story mode, which contain a brand new storyline filled with the same kind of silly characters and story arcs that we saw in the first game. It’s ultimately forgettable and not where the long term appeal lies, but a great way to gradually get acquainted with the game’s mechanics without having to dive straight into the gameplay.

Luckily, I revel in the chaos and as of writing this, Tetris 99 is my second favorite game of 2019. The result is an incredibly tense experience and one that offers incredible replay value. Matches are quick; it’s easy to pick up, and playing handheld is actually the best way to play since you can use the Switch touchscreen to target players manually. If you, however, are playing in docked-mode, I recommend using the Joy-Con. Considering how fast, precise and chaotic Tetris 99 is, you’ll want to eliminate as many human errors as possible. This is a great game to play with a non-gamer because of the casual, fun vibe.
